Today started very early. A bit too early, if I'm honest - by eleven o'clock I was ready for my lunch. But I've held off and been busy in the garden. When planning the day it didn't look anything like this, but then that's surely one of the upsides of being 'at home'? One of the sitting areas in the garden has become a favourite and because of that I want to make it even better - more fragrance, more colour more shape - so there's now a beautiful hole dug waiting for a bare rooted Boscobel David Austin rose arriving any day soon and some lavender plants already in.
But here's what's happening in the garden today:
The smell from the last plant - mahonia - is pretty overwhelming. And it seems I'm not the only one affected in that way. Curled up under it, in amongst the cushions of hardy geraniums is a sleepy hedgehog. He turned as I was pottering about, then simply rolled over and went back to sleep.
I don't think I was part of his plans for the day either.
